The Bahá'í temple (a.k.a) The Lotus temple - Day 2

17th April 2010, 4 pm

After a short rest and freshen up we got ready to explore the exciting and attracting destinations of Delhi. Swam through the Delhi traffic we reached the destination. We thought we could cover few places on this evening, but due to a little longer rest we took, we decided to restrict this evening with one or two destinations.

The first one we selected was the 'The Lotus temple' or 'The Bahá'í temple'.

When we are about to reach the destination, on our way, amidst the pleasant evening of the capital, on the side of the road you can view the 'Lotus' like temple there standing gigantically surrounded with a beautiful landscape.

Got amazed with the structure and design, I was wondering the architecture of it. Designed like slightly opened lotus petals in two layers surrounded with a huge landscape, it was an outstanding view.

My hands picked up the camera automatically to capture that view. The view was excellent and I don't have any words to describe it. It was like huge gigantic white lotus flower popped out of the green landscape. With all people walking over here and there, you can see like people are getting in and out of that flower.

Nearing to the Lotus temple, we were doubtful whether they open now or going to be closed ?, though I noted down the opening timings from web, the driver said they will close in few minutes. Jumped out of the vehicle, I rushed to the main door to see the visitor timings and very happy to see that they are open for another few hours.

Happily stepped in and walked through the beautifully paved pathway leading to that famous location, we were getting closer to the temple. I had opportunity to capture that view in different angles from different distance. Some snaps from that are given here for your eyes.

While we get a little more closer, we can see volunteers with a sack in their hand asking us to wrap up our shoes, chapels in it for safe keeping while we explore the wonder building.

We walked up on the steps to reach the floor (the bottom of lotus petals). Nice floor with a carpet which helps to make a organized walk-in to the temple. Greeted by the volunteers there, we were organized into smaller groups by them, they started explaining about the Bahá'í culture and gave us a few inputs and pamphlets about that temple.

After that, We stepped into the hall. It is a very big hall, but you don't see any idol or statue inside that huge hall. The hall is full of benches aligned neatly wherein you can sit and meditate upon and spend your time. A complete silence is maintained there which is the center of attraction.

After spending some time over there, we stepped out to take some snaps and to have a view of the surrounding. There were steps taking you to the downstairs where you can see a small pond which is like a outer ring to the ground floor.

Overall it is a beautiful location with an attractive silence. Since the clock was creeping near 7, we walked out of the place and they also started preparing for the closing. Some snaps with the beautiful lighting for your views here.

Thats all here in the famous Lotus temple, await for my next blog about my visit to the "India Gate"

Post your comments and suggestions to encourage me.

Beautiful Chennai to Capital Delhi - Day 1 & 2

16th April 2010, 5 am

Our scheduled journey started from home. Our eager and anxiety didn't allow us to sleep properly in the previous night. All of us were ready at 4.30 am and waiting for the cab to come. Exactly at 5am we were all on board in the cab and heading towards the railway station.

It was a dream trip for me due to two reasons, with all my family members was the first and to my dream destinations is the second reason.

At 5:40 am we were all on board in the 'Rajadhani express' to Delhi, which was scheduled to depart in another 20 minutes.

When we booked our ticket itself we were asked for our food preference. And our co-passenger, an Army man, who is frequent in Rajadhani said food will be of excellent taste. Above all these, we heard one comment that they will be giving something to eat every 2 hours !!!

We all started early morning with just a coffee. So hearing all these we were eagerly waiting for the moment.

With a loud whistle our train announced the departure from Chennai.

We were enjoying the sceneries outside and were waiting for the morning breakfast. The clock was showing 9 am, and no breakfast still. It is not only our problem but every passenger's issue. Kids were really struggling to manage.

We can see food packets were being carried by the IRCTC staffs through our compartment but no sign of food. Finally at 9.30 am the much awaited breakfast has come. Tasty, good quality but very less quantity, for me the quantity is very low.

Luckily we were carrying some biscuits and snacks with us. Apart from the kids I was the lonely competing person for that. We were all playing the famous UNO card game and enjoying the journey.

The train had a sudden stop on a bridge and it was waiting for signal. My wife said to me, this is Vijayawada and she showed me the temple on top of the hill, it was a wonderful view outside. I took my camera and moved to the gate to take a snap of the view and returned back to my seat. (It is the Kanaka Durga temple with the Golden roof on the Hill)

When the clock touched 12 pm our train reached the Vijayawada station. Immediately my wife said, "Get some food packets from here. May be curd rice for kids, that will do"

My mother added to this conversation, "Raja get something for us too. The quantity will be low and we need some food to balance that."

So myself and my bro'in law stepped out of the train. we were very much surprised to see that not only us, almost every passenger was doing the same. The train departed from that station and while it reach Warangal station (the time was 2 pm) lunch arrived and as expected the lunch time went smooth with the surplus food packets picked up by us.

We were all tired, due to the packing process and early morning wake up and all. So we decided to take a nap and everyone went to their berth. I had a good sleep and my dad wake me up with a tap saying snacks time. I got down and freshen up and reached my snacks set to see the biscuits, samoosa (tasty punjabi samoosa's), son papdi (very tasty ones), and some bread sandwiches. Happy with the varieties i had finished everything.

Our happy journey continued and we are about to touch Nagpur, my dad started telling about his trip to Nagpur in 1970s and we were listening to him. He was telling the Oranges were tasty and we should pick up some if possible.

Our train halted at Nagpur station at 8.40 pm and I stepped out of train to look for some Oranges. Unlucky myself, didn't get a chance to see anything. Also my search was for some food packets for dinner. I am unlucky in that too. So returned back to my seat empty handed. I have almost walked end to end in the platform.

After out dinner, we were all playing cards and around 11pm, we all decided to retire. It was sound sleep, before I can hear my dad's voice saying if you all don't wake up i will take your breakfast. Got up fast and looked at my watch. It is 7 am.

Surprisingly our breakfast is already there. So got ready and finished our breakfast and we were fighting for the window seat because the next station is Agra. I thought we may be able to see Taj from there. I prepared myself with Camera and sitting ready near the Window. We reached Agra station and train started from there too. I was looking out.... looking out.... nothing.

I can see only landscapes and buildings and then I enquired our army friend he said "No, you will not get a view from here". So I sat down sad. My sister and wife started packing the bags and preparing kids.

Our train passed through Mathura station and we are all ready and sharp at 10.20 am our train entered the H.Nizamuddin station.

We reached after a 28 hour journey to Delhi finally. I wasn't aware that I am going to have a hectic trip all over for the next 7 days. We were greeted by friends of my Bro'in law. After the formal introduction over, we started walking towards the exit to the car park.

Leaving you all here, I will write about our trips on the next post - the first one will be our trip to Bahai temple and the photos of the same. Wait for the same to enjoy.

Kindly leave your comments and suggestions to encourage me to write more.
